Cultural connection

Shapes in azulejos

Spain and Mexico are famous for azulejos — painted ceramic tiles covering walls, fountains, and stairways with circles, stars, and diamonds in dazzling patterns. Look up photos of Talavera tiles from Puebla, Mexico with your child: how many shapes and colors can they spot?

Unit 4 progress check

A light, no-pressure way to see what is sticking:

  • Can your child name four shapes when you draw them?
  • Can they find a círculo and a cuadrado somewhere in the room?
  • Do they combine a shape and a color (una estrella amarilla)?

Two out of three is a great place to move on — everything spirals back in later units.
