桥梁复习
Qiáoliáng fùxí — Bridge Review

Six years, consolidated. No new material at all — this unit exists to find and fill the gaps before middle school, where the pace assumes everything below is solid.

⏳ 5 lessons · ~40 min each ✎ 0 new characters 🔁 Consolidation

The nine patterns that matter most

Everything from K–5 reduces to these. A student solid on all nine is ready for Grade 6.

1. 我是学生。 noun → 是
2. 我很高兴。 adjective → 很, never 是
3. 我每天六点起床。 time before the verb
4. 书在桌子上。 position word after the place
5. 我吃了。 了 completed · 在 ongoing · 过 experienced
6. 我没吃。 没 negates completed actions, not 不
7. 我比你高。 comparison — and drop the 很
8. 我明天要去。 要 plans · 会 predictions
9. 三本书 number + measure word + noun

Unit objectives

  • Produce all nine patterns correctly and unprompted
  • Read a 400-character text with reasonable fluency
  • Identify their own three weakest areas honestly
  • Close those gaps before the year ends

How the review is run

Diagnostically, not as a test. Students work through mixed exercises, mark their own, and keep a personal list of what they got wrong. The list — not a score — is the output. Lessons 4 and 5 are then spent on whatever is actually on the lists, which differs from class to class and student to student.

In this unit

Five lessons to close the gaps

🔍
Lesson 1 · ~40 min

Character sweep

All 400 characters, read at speed. Anything hesitated over goes on the list.

🧩
Lesson 2 · ~40 min

Nine patterns, mixed

Exercises that jump between patterns deliberately — which is harder, and more honest, than practising one at a time.

📖
Lesson 3 · ~40 min

Read something long

A full page of connected text — longer than anything attempted before, and entirely within their vocabulary.

🛠
Lesson 4 · ~40 min

Fix what’s broken

Targeted work on whatever the lists actually say. Every student is doing something different.

🎤
Lesson 5 · ~40 min

Talk for two minutes

An unrehearsed two-minute conversation with the teacher on a familiar topic. The real exit check.

For the adult in the room

Don’t skip this one

Review units are the easiest to drop when a term runs short, and this is the one that costs most to lose. Grade 6 moves faster and assumes all 400 characters and all nine patterns are automatic; a student carrying gaps into it tends to slow down two units in, at which point the gap is harder to find and much harder to fix. If time is tight, cut Unit 1 or Unit 4 instead and keep this.

Ready for Grade 6?

The honest checklist:

  • Reads 400 characters without long pauses
  • Writes 240 with correct stroke order
  • Uses all nine patterns without being reminded
  • Can hold a two-minute conversation without switching to English

Three out of four is fine to proceed. Fewer than three is worth a summer of light review rather than pushing on.
