A Life Remembered in the Press

“Of life well lived and generous donations”

Fluto Shinzawa · Perspective · The Daily Free Press · Thursday, November 19, 1998

The saved article

Fluto Shinzawa’s perspective remembered Chaz through his love for Kim and Carson and the friendships he formed in alt.smokers.cigars. It described how friends responded to his death with condolences, auctions, and a college fund for his son.

The article reported $7,041 collected by November 10, 1998 and looked ahead to the December 4 Jazz for Chaz benefit. That figure is an earlier snapshot; the memorial’s June 1999 update later reported more than $21,500.

Drawing on Chaz’s posts and Kim’s message, it recalled the joy of Carson’s birth and evenings together on the porch. It also connected the wedding song and funeral prayer-card poem to the memories his family and friends held.
