Las Formas
The Shapes
Circles, squares, stars, and hearts — shapes connect Spanish class to math class, and they are hiding in every room. Students learn eight shape words and go on shape hunts through their world.
Unit objectives
By the end of this unit, students will be able to:
- Recognize and name eight shapes in Spanish
- Find and point to shapes in the room when named
- Combine shapes with colors: un círculo rojo
- Trace shapes in the air while saying their names

The shapes of everything
Shapes in azulejos
Spain and Mexico are famous for azulejos — painted ceramic tiles covering walls, fountains, and stairways with circles, stars, and diamonds in dazzling patterns. Look up photos of Talavera tiles from Puebla, Mexico with your child: how many shapes and colors can they spot?
Unit 4 progress check
A light, no-pressure way to see what is sticking:
- Can your child name four shapes when you draw them?
- Can they find a círculo and a cuadrado somewhere in the room?
- Do they combine a shape and a color (una estrella amarilla)?
Two out of three is a great place to move on — everything spirals back in later units.
