Unit objectives
By the end of this unit, students will be able to:

- Use mi (my) with family words: mi mamá

The people we love
La familia is big
In many Spanish-speaking cultures, “family” means everyone — cousins, great-aunts, godparents (padrinos), and close family friends who are simply called tía or tío. Sunday family gatherings can fill a whole house. Who counts as family in your house? All answers are right.
Unit 6 progress check
A light, no-pressure way to see what is sticking:
- Can your child name the people in a family photo in Spanish?
- Do they use mi with family words (mi mamá)?
- Can they introduce a family member: Es mi hermano?
Two out of three is a great place to move on — everything spirals back in later units.
