La Comida
The Food
Food words get used three times a day, every day, forever. Students learn breakfast-table staples and practice the politest sentence in Spanish: más, por favor — more, please.
Unit objectives
By the end of this unit, students will be able to:
- Name eight foods and drinks in Spanish
- Ask for food politely: por favor, gracias
- Say Me gusta / No me gusta about foods honestly
- Recognize foods from the Spanish-speaking world

The tastiest unit of the year
What is for breakfast?
Breakfast around the Spanish-speaking world: pan dulce (sweet bread) with hot chocolate in Mexico, tostadas with tomato in Spain, arepas in Colombia and Venezuela, gallo pinto in Costa Rica. If you can, try one together this week — food is culture you can taste.
Unit 9 progress check
A light, no-pressure way to see what is sticking:
- Can your child name four foods at the actual table?
- Do they say por favor and gracias during meals (in Spanish)?
- Have they given an honest food opinion: No me gusta…?
Two out of three is a great place to move on — everything spirals back in later units.
