Los Animales
The Animals
Animals are guaranteed kindergarten joy. Students learn pets and farm animals — and discover the funniest fact in language learning: animals “speak” differently in Spanish! A Spanish rooster says kikirikí.
Unit objectives
By the end of this unit, students will be able to:
- Name eight animals in Spanish
- Make each animal’s sound and movement
- Match animal sounds to animal names
- Say which animal is their favorite: Me gusta el gato
Key vocabulary preview
8 words this unit — all practiced with flashcards inside each lesson.
el perro · el gato · el pájaro · el pez · la vaca · el caballo · el pollo · el cerdo
Pets, farms, and very loud sounds
Animals speak Spanish too
A dog in English says woof — but in Spanish, ¡guau guau! A rooster says kikirikí, not cock-a-doodle-doo. Same animals, different “languages.” This delights every child who discovers it. What does a Spanish cat say? ¡Miau! (Okay, that one is close.)
Unit 8 progress check
A light, no-pressure way to see what is sticking:
- Can your child name four animals from pictures?
- Can they match the Spanish animal sound to the animal?
- Do they say which animal they like: Me gusta…?
Two out of three is a great place to move on — everything spirals back in later units.
