This year at a glance

Grade 4 looks outward: our town, how to move through it, and the traditions of the Spanish-speaking world — studied with respect and curiosity. Grammar becomes visible for the first time: students notice and use the patterns of present-tense verbs.

By the end of Grade 4, students can say:

  • I can give simple directions in my town.
  • I can describe a tradition from the Spanish-speaking world.
  • I can use common verbs correctly in the present tense.

Standards

Every unit is aligned to the ACTFL World-Readiness Standards (Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, Communities) with NCSSFL-ACTFL Can-Do statements as learning targets. See the full curriculum map.

For families & teachers

🏠 At home

When festivals appear in the news or on TV, ask your child what they know about them. Cook one dish from a Spanish-speaking country together.

🍎 In the classroom

Culture units follow the ACTFL products–practices–perspectives frame; avoid costume-and-fiesta reductionism. Heritage speakers: interview a family member about a tradition. IEP/504: role-play scripts available at three support levels.
